Homeless No More

My latest article for AARP Bulletin covers homeless veterans not only given a second chance, but a new home! The response has been overwhelming. Veterans and social service folks have been contacting me to vent and find resources.

I read your article and wanted to share that I am a District Officer for District 12 American Legion, Phoenix, AZ. My main mission in the American Legion is to help homeless Veterans and Veterans in the State Nursing Home. I really enjoy giving back to my Veterans, they really need our help. Having read your article inspired me to share it with our District and to pass down to the Post level to entice others to create a community like the one you write about. I am also a Realtor who works primarily with Rental properties and feel I could be a great resource in putting something like the community effort in Massachusetts. It’s nice to know people do great things for those who served our great Country. God Bless America and our Veterans and Active Duty Military.

    • Michelle,
I have received so many emails and phone calls from vets and their families about my story. There is no other place I know that not only offers attractive, green housing for homeless vets, but gives them an ownership stake. That model is expanding to similar projects in the state, and hopefully it will go nationwide.

I’m so glad you found my piece helpful and that you are seeing what can be done in Arizona.

      Sally
